Sophie Leu

Sophie(LEU Shao-Yu) is a Taiwanese illustrator and interdisciplinary researcher based in Taipei, whose artistic and academic practices explore the intersections of art education, feminist theory, and cultural studies. Her work is grounded in lived experience and shaped by an interest in visual storytelling as a method for critical reflection, dialogue, and community engagement. Drawing from personal narratives, collective memory, and the textures of everyday life, she often addresses themes such as care, resilience, and gendered subjectivity. With formal training in visual arts and humanities education, Sophie works across traditional and digital media, combining illustrative sensitivity with research-informed content. She has experience designing educational programs, curating feminist exhibitions, and collaborating across disciplines to foster inclusive, participatory learning environments. Her ongoing projects examine how illustration can function as a feminist pedagogical tool—bridging theory and emotion, activating relational knowledge, and supporting cultural accessibility within and beyond institutional spaces.
